FromSoftware is given to treating the ”new games” as an escalation of difficulty and varying certain elements to differentiate it from the previous one

A mechanics that many games incorporate to pamper their replayability is the New Game+ modethe option to start the game again but keeping part of the elements that we obtained in the first to face the biggest challenge that we are expected to have to face. FromSoftware usually incorporates it into many of its games, and in Elden Ring it did not want to make an exception.

We explain to you what does it consist of this mode when you complete Miyazaki’s work, what changes, remains or is lost when you ”restart” the game world in this mode, and if you are interested or not start a New Game+ to play Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring New Game+ Mode

The mode Elden Ring New Game+ It proposes us to venture through the Middle Lands again, from the beginning of the adventure, when we went out to the Necrolimbo area for the first time, and began to explore its places. It is an option that is blocked at the beginning and to access it we have have completed Elden Ring at least once no matter what type of ending we choose. It is a FromSoftware modus operandi that was already seen in some games such as Dark Souls or Armored Core VI.

However, in the case of Elden Ring, there are a number of factors that change with each game or ”run” that we want to do in New Game+ mode. The main one is the difficulty, but is offset by other elements which we are going to explain to you below:

  • The difficulty will increase in each New Game+ with up to seven ”levels” (one for each game).
  • The enemies They will have more health and deal more damage. In our first New Game+ it is a raw increase of 50% of those statistics, and in subsequent ones up to an additional 10%.
  • Almost all objects they will reappear in their position initial in the world.
  • The rune and XP gains with these they increase between 550% and 200%depending on the enemy in question.
  • All characters, their missions and vendors will be reset and we will return to having their full stock or with their missions at the beginning (this applies also to the Places of Grace).

Which we will not find are new enemies or resources or objects that we had not found before (unless it is the first time we see one since before making a New Game+ we did not pass by a certain place that has an object that we did not know about).

How to start a New Game+ in Elden Ring

After defeat the Circle Beast and watch the credits sequence, before returning to the main menu a box will appear asking us if we want to start a New Game+ mode now or not. If we choose not to, we can continue exploring the game just before our fight against the final boss of the game and accumulate more power.

In case you change your mind or consider that you are ready to take on the New Game+ mode, you can access this mode at any time by resting in the place of grace of the Round Table.

What is transferred or lost to a New Game+

In the New Game+ modes of most games, and having already seen that represents greater difficulty that in a normal one, there are elements that we will keep so that the experience is not so difficult for us, but others that we will not be able to recover if we choose to start it. In general, our inventory (with some exceptions that we will now see) will be preserved, as well as our character level and statistics, but there are others that do not, in addition to the fact that we will not have fast travel through the reset of the places of grace. This is everything that changes for our character in a New Game+:

What we keep

  • Levelcharacter attributes and statistics (Strength, Dexterity, etc.).
  • Weapons (upgraded or not) armor, shields, spells, talismans and consumables.
  • All Vials (including those of Médika Milagrosa), their quantity and charges. NOTE: In New Game+ mode, the maximum number of vials drops from 14 to 12.
  • The recipes that you have learned about materials (including materials such as fats, tears, convalarias…)
  • The map It will appear as revealed as you had it in your gameminus grace points and custom markers
  • all the runes that you had at the time you started New Game mode +

What we don’t keep

  • inventory items concerning a mission or secondary activity (if it was in progress when we started the New Game+) or that are granted to us from depending on what moment (Torrentera, Stone Keys etc.)
  • The consequences of the dialogues that we have chosen are restarted
  • Quiescent Twin Maiden Spheres
  • All Medallions of the game
  • Spell books or scrolls

New Game+ with Shadow of the Erdtree

If you want to access Shadow of the Erdtree in New Game+ mode, you can do so, but keep in mind that when all boss and plot progress is reset, you will have to go back to reach Mohgwyn’s Mausoleum and defeat Mohg the Bloodlord again, and also defeat Radahn.

If in your first game it was a little difficult, depending on your level of expertise with the game it won’t be so difficult, but it may take you a while to qualify for the DLC if you decide to start a New Game+ mode before accessing the expansion content. Whether Shadow of the Erdtree will be affected by New Game+ mode it’s still too early to sayand we do not know if certain elements that only have effects in the Shadowlands will be preserved between one run or another.
