Apple prioritizes the development of a cheaper version of Vision Pro

Apple has decided to pause the development of the second generation of the Vision Pro to focus on create a more affordable version of its innovative mixed reality headset. According to a recent report, this change in strategy reflects Apple’s goal of expanding its market by offering a more economically accessible device.

Vision Pro, initially launched with a price of $3,500, has been criticized for its high cost, which has limited its mass adoption. Apple now plans to launch a cheaper version, possibly around $1,500, similar to the price of a high-end iPhone. This move is designed to better compete with devices like Meta Quest, which dominate the VR market with lower prices.

The production of this cheaper version will not be easy. Apple has been testing micro-OLED displays from new suppliers such as BOE and SeeYa Technology to increase production scale and reduce costs. However, manufacturing these displays on a large scale presents significant challenges, and the company is working hard to balance the cost and quality of the device.

This strategic adjustment suggests that Apple is reevaluating its approach to the mixed reality market, prioritizing accessibility to reach a broader audience. Although the development of a high-end model has not been completely ruled out, the focus is currently on making the technology more accessible without compromising the user experience.

The new device is expected to be available at the end of 2025, which will allow Apple to compete more effectively in the virtual and augmented reality market. This move could also influence other manufacturers, encouraging them to offer high-quality devices at more competitive prices.
