7 new apps for Android fresh out of the oven (June ’24)

This month of June, in addition to welcoming summer, has been the most curious. Microsoft has launched a tool to create stickers using AI, YouTube has presented a new interface in the experimental phase that greatly improves its current design, and we have also discovered Kimi AI, known to many as the Chinese ChatGPT.

In addition to this, we have also learned how to use the new audio emoji system for phone calls, and Runway has introduced Gen-3 Alpha, an incredible new video generator capable of standing up to Sora.

But that was not all that happened in the month of June. Below, we review some of the most notable Android applications that have been released in recent weeks.

Gemini

Without a doubt, Google’s AI has led the most important debut of the month of June in the Play Store. Although the Gemini app has been available for some time, it has not been officially released until now in Spain and the rest of Europe.

You can use Gemini just like you would any other text generator, but the idea is that you set it up as a replacement for Google Assistant. You can invoke it with the same “OK Google” command that the classic Assistant uses, and it offers a multitude of extra functionalities.

The app offers a handful of advanced settings, such as video recording in H.264 and H.265, individual controls for focus, aperture or shutter speed.

Face: Art & Social

Cara is not a “new” app as such, although in recent weeks it has gained a lot of popularity due to the fact that many digital artists are abandoning Instagram to go to Cara, in protest against Meta, which has begun to use the social network’s content. to train your AI models.

Cara is a portfolio app for creatives where you can publish your illustrations, artwork and photographs, and AI-generated content can only be published if it is correctly tagged, creating a safe space for digital artists.

The application is currently only available to a limited extent in some countries. We have tried to install it, but it still cannot be used officially in Spain. In any case, you can now find it on Google Play in case you are curious.

Last April, Yahoo bought Artifact, an AI-powered news aggregator that shows you current articles based on your interests. Now Yahoo has just integrated Artifact technology into its Yahoo News app to give it a complete facelift and substantially improve it.

The new Yahoo News app is not available in Spain, although if you want to try this new AI-selected news system, you can still install the Artifact app, which is still available in the Play Store.

Sunbird

Sunbird is a new app that allows you to send messages to the iPhone iMessage app from an Android device. The app currently raises a lot of doubts regarding its privacy, although it is difficult to verify, since at the moment it is only available through a waiting list for a limited number of users.

In addition, as indicated by Android Authority, it seems that some users who have already tried it are receiving a notice indicating that the application will soon cost $1.99 per month.

In any case, if you want to try it you can sign up for the waiting list from its official website.
