Health alert for respiratory viruses: masks will be mandatory in emergency services starting April 1

Masks will once again be mandatory, but only in public and private emergency services. This was announced this day the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilerawho provided more details about the health alert due to the increase in seasonal respiratory viruses that was decreed during the day on Tuesday and published in the Official Gazette.

Aguilera highlighted regarding the health alert that last year they decided to take this same measure preventively, which resulted in good learning and that they decided to repeat this year.

“(The preventive alert last year) allowed us to be on a better footing when the syncytial virus began to increase so sharply,” explained the Secretary of State.

Along with decreeing the health alert, Aguilera maintained that they decided to also establish the mandatory use of a mask from April 1 in emergency services in the public and private sectors. This is so that waiting rooms are not a place where virus transmission is amplified.

The measure – he explained – It is for all people who go to an emergency service and also for the staff inside it. Depending on the epidemiological situation, the measure may be lifted before the end of the alert.

In that sense, the Secretary of State recalled that The use of a mask is recommended whenever the person has respiratory symptoms so as not to infect the rest of the people, along with frequent hand washing and the use of disposable tissues.

The health alert, as indicated in the publication of the Official Gazette, is in force until September 31.
