BATON ROUGE- The New Orleans beach volleyball team (11-20) returned to the Lakefront with a win over ULM (3-2) at the Battle on the Bayou tournament hosted by No. 9 LSU on April 12-13. The Privateers dropped matches to No. 9 LSU (5-0), SLU (4-1), and Jacksonville (3-2) in their final regular-season tournament. Posting the best record were seniors Bria Garmon and Maria Ozaeta at 3-1 from court one, dropping their only match to LSU. The duo finished the regular season with a team-best 19-12 record. Senior Serena Baumgart and freshman Anne Marie Hardouin went 2-2 on the weekend with wins over ULM and Jacksonville.
New Orleans opened the tournament on fire against ULM with Garmon/Ozaeta and junior Ivana De Carvahlo Peixe and freshman Nikelle Lander winning in two straight sets. Baumgart and Hardouin clinched the dual at court four in a deciding third set. The Privateers concluded Friday with LSU winning across all five courts in two sets.
New Orleans opened Saturday morning with SLU and, despite the 4-1 loss, Garmon and Ozaeta secured the sole point and gave Andrea Da Silva and Rachel Hartmann their seventh loss of the season at court one.
In the last match of the regular season, he came down to the wire for New Orleans, who battled point-for-point with JU until the end. It all came down to a deciding set at court three, where New Orleans dropped the set 15-7.
