No. 7 Women’s Tennis Finishes Third at UAA Championship With Win Over CWRU

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis defeated No. 13 Case Western Reserve University 5-2 to finish third in the UAA. It is the highest finish for WashU at the UAA Championship since 2016 when it finished second. The Bears sit at a 17-4 record.

Doubles

The Bears went up 2-1 following doubles with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

No. 23 Eleanor Archer and Karen Gao defeated Radha Patel and Katalina Wang 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Ainsley Heidbreder and Emily Chiasson Anna topped Kan and Pallavi Goculdas 8-7 (7-3) at No. 3 doubles.

The No. 19 team of Eliana Hanna and Amber Edmonds fell to No. 4 Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey 3-8 at No. 1 doubles.

Singles

The Spartans pulled even with a win at No. 1 singles ace Nina Moravek fell to No. 9 Kassaie 2-6, 0-6.

Gao notched a win over Kan at No. 4 singles to put the Bears ahead again, winning 6-2, 6-1 and Hanna followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wang at No. 3 singles.

Archer clinched the match at No. 2 singles, defeating McCloskey 6-4, 7-5.

Edmonds match against Radha Patel at No. 5 singles remained unfinished once the Bears clinched the match. Edmonds fell in the first set 2-6 but was up 5-4 in the second set.

Chiasson’s match against Asha Shukla at No. 6 singles was also unfinished. She won the first set 6-3 and fell in the second set 4-6 to force a third set.

The Bears will now await their NCAA fate. The NCAA Tournament will begin on May 10 with regionals and the NCAA Championship will be hosted by WashU at Dwight Davis Tennis Center, beginning on May 20.
