Police have launched an urgent hunt for a man who has been absconded from a secure unit and are urging members of the public not to approach him.

Shaun Paul Smith after acquitted during a visit to Preston from a secure unit on Thursday (April 25). Lancashire Constabulary believe he has links to Rossendale and Blackburn.

The 60-year-old, also known as Aemon Martin, was last seen near the toilets on the ground floor of Fishergate Shopping Center in Preston at about 1pm. He is described as a white male with gray hair, slim build, a beard and a mustache.

Smith was last seen wearing a hat, cream jeans, grey/red t-shirt, gray cardigan, black coat, black trainers and a backpack. He was also carrying a large TK Maxx bag.

In an appeal on social media, a force spokesperson said: “We’re refreshing our appeal to find missing Shaun Paul Smith, with some additional CCTV footage. We appreciate its not the best quality, but we’re hoping it may help to jog someone’s memory.

“If you see him, please do not approach him but call 999 quoting log 0689 of April 25th.”
