What to do in the event of a fire caused by a gas cylinder explosion? Follow these safety tips

In recent days, unfortunate news was released as a result of a gas leak that caused a bottle to explode, leaving two fatalities. The incident generated concern in the population about the safety in the handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

In relation to this topic, in the program “El Mañanero”, a series of recommendations were made known to guarantee safety when installing and using bottles. Mariluz Farfán, director of the Municipal Risk Management Directorate, shared key tips to avoid future accidents.

“We make the population aware of the recommendations for the use and management of LPG. The bottle should not be covered, the hose should be changed every six months and checked every three months to verify that there are no leaks. Additionally, it is important to turn off the tap when the bottle is not in use and make sure it is in good condition.“said Farfán.

He also added that, in the event of a fire, it is crucial to have a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and turn off the faucet with a rag or glove. Likewise, people must be evacuated and emergency services must be called immediately, providing the number 800 12 5050 for this purpose.

From the Municipal Risk Management Directorate, other recommendations were made known for the correct installation and use of bottles. Among them, the importance of knowing the location of the stopcocks to act quickly in case of emergency stands out, checking the gas pipes every three months to ensure their optimal condition, and having a qualified professional to install the bottles.
