Women’s tennis rolls over Oberlin in NCAC Quarterfinals

WOOSTER, Ohio (May 3, 2024) – The Denison University women’s tennis team started off its run at the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-0 win over Oberlin College in the NCAC quarterfinals on Friday.

Elizabeth Hoo and Anna Leach defeated Robyn Gurujal and Moe Ariyoshi 8-1 at No. 3 doubles while Dasha Chistyakova and Maia Nowicki defeated Anna Pastore and Freya Rahm 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Caroline Kittle and Peyton Oda finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Lydia Zafeiri and Amelia Bronfman at No. 2 doubles.

The only singles match that needed to finish for the Big Red to finish off the win was a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Hoo over Ariyoshi at No. 4 singles.

With the win, Denison improves to 16-8 overall while Oberlin’s season ends at 1-17. Denison had previously defeated Oberlin by a score of 5-3 in the semifinals of the NCAC Tournament in both 2018 and 2022.

For the second year in a row, Denison will battle third-seeded Wittenberg University in the NCAC semifinals starting at 11 pm tomorrow (May 4). The Big Red defeated the Tigers 5-1 last year in the NCAC semifinals.
