USF Softball Completes Comeback Win in Marathon Game Against UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas., May 3, 2024 –The University of South Florida softball team (33-20, 12-13 AAC) completed the comeback win over the University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (14-40, 4-21 AAC) to open the series on Friday night. The Bulls won with a final score of 2-1.

In the top of the 11th inning with the bases loaded, Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) earned a four-pitch walk to bring the game-winning run across the plate.

The 11 innings are tied for the longest game for South Florida this season. The other was an 11-inning win over Charlotte. The game lasted 3:53 minutes, the longest game for the Bulls this season.

After the Bulls stranded two runners in the opening frame, the game settled into a pitcher’s duel. Through the first four innings, the game was scoreless.

The Roadrunners took the 1-0 lead in the fifth inning.

After a 30-minute weather delay at the top of the sixth, South Florida loaded the bases but nothing came of it.

With a 1-0 count and the Bulls down by one, Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) belted his second home run of the season to tie the game.

Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) earned her 26th start of the season. She quickly settled, striking out four batters in three innings. Dixon finished her outing with five strikeouts. Belle Sardja (Gibsonton) pitched the rest of the game for the Bulls. She struck out nine batters. She earned her 13 wins of the season.
