Jonathan Narvaez surprised this Saturday and won the first stage of the Giro d’Italia 2024 after beating in the final sprint Tadej Pogacar and Maximilian Schachmann on the route between Venaria Reale and Turin with a route of 143 kilometers.

The stage began with the traditional flag-waving and from there the race broke out that lasted until the last kilometers of the stage that was defined between only three runners.

After catching up with the breakaway, Pogacar attacked the peloton with five kilometers remaining and only two riders responded to his wheel, Narváez and Schachmann, who in the end arrived ahead of the Slovenian in the final sprint.

As for the Colombians, Esteban Chaves was the best Colombian of the day while Daniel Felipe Martínez, Nairo Quintana among others arrived with the majority group.

This Sunday the second stage of the Giro d’Italia will be run, which will have a 161-kilometer route between San Francesco Al Campo and Santuario Di Oropa with a first-category high finish and two third-category climbs throughout the day.
