In a dramatic photo finish, it was the lightly-heralded Mystik Dan who nosed out one of the favorites in Sierra Leone to win the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville.
The Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby winner Forever Young found the show money by a photo as well, appropriate for the third-choice on the tote board who went off at 7-1 to win.
The dramatic photos show how close it was at the top of the board.
It’s the first win for Kentucky native Kenny McPeek, one of the most popular trainers in the industry. And it’s another heartbreaking loss for Chad Brown, who comes up a nose short in his quest to win his first Kentucky Derby.
