The University of Hartford baseball team combined for 18 runs and 23 hits in posting the doubleheader sweep of Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University Saturday at Fiondella Field.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 7, SUFFOLK 5

Sophomore Jackson Ciccone (3 hits, 3 RBI), Freshman Stephen Kubis (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 RBI), alongside sophomore Jeremy Mangiameli (1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI) led the way for the Hawks on the offensive end.

Suffolk raced out to an early 2-0, but the Hawks were able to respond immediately at the bottom of the second inning thanks to a base-clearing double from Ciccone to take the lead 3-2. The Hawks were able to tally on another run in the third inning due to a double RBI from Mangiameli but Suffolk was able to tie the game 4-4 at the top of the fifth inning due to a balk. It was a triple RBI down right center from freshman Stephen Kubis that gained the Hawks to 5-4 lead. Freshman Zaynn Godbee He tallied onto the scoreboard with his first collegiate home run to propel Hartford to a 7-5 victory.

Junior Luke Rier (2-3) started the game finishing with 4.1 innings pitched registering 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 SO.

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 11 SUFFOLK 10

Senior Jake Santiago (2 runs, 3 hits, 6 rbi), sophomore Josh Kaplan (2 runs, 2 hits), and freshman John Russell (1 run, 2 hits, 1 rbi) led the way for the Hawks on the offensive end.

The Hawks gained an early 3-1 lead at the bottom of the second inning. Senior Jake Santiago extended the Hartford lead to 6-1 with a home run down left field, Suffolk was able to answer back in the fifth inning tying up the score 6-6. However, the Hawks were able to strike back thanks to a double RBI from freshman Stephen Kubis to take the lead 8-6. The Rams were able to tie up the score 8-8 at the top of the sixth but with the help of two Rbi’s singles from Santiago at the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings the Hawks took a 10-8 lead. Kubis tallied onto the scoreboard for the Hawks with a triple down the left-field line to enter the ninth inning leading. Thanks to some strong defense and pitching from sophomore Joe Dooley in relief the Hawks were able to win 11-10.

Senior Colin Blake (2-7) started the game finishing with 4.1 innings pitched registering 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 SO.
