VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) – The Valdosta Fire Department is investigating an apartment fire in the 1700 block of N. Ashley Street.

According to Fire Chief Brian Boutwell, a total of 19 firefighters responded to a structure fire at the apartment complex.

The first fire unit arrived within three minutes to find heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the building.

Boutwell told WALB that the fire extended to the second floor of the building.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Officials responded to a second fire in Scott Park just 15 minutes before. The fire was in a bathroom at the park. Boutwell says that the fire was small.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the three displaced residents.
