BOWIE, Texas (KAUZ) – Earlier this week we told you about Gold-Burg ISD and their One Act Play, they’re going to state for the first time and they were practicing the play for a crowd.

The school does not have a stage of its own, they use their gym as a rehearsal space, but they got the chance to use the stage at Bowie Junior High to practice.

“It feels very very nice because we have a gym floor, and you see we have a flashlight for our lights, no stage. So, they have worked very hard just to get where we are now,” said Gold-Burg ISD Theater Director, Linda Fitzner. “It means the world because we’ve got community behind us, parents, a great bake sale going on. “I mean we’re thrilled.”

For students, it was a great opportunity to show the hard work and dedication they put into the play outside of their other activities.

“A lot of these kids this isn’t the only thing they’re doing, I know it’s not the only thing I’m doing, I’m president of FFA and I’ve got all these other sports and stuff going on. It’s tough, and it’s tough to make all these sacrifices that all these kids make, and we’re all so thankful that they all do,” Gold-Burg ISD Sophomore Actor, Levi Hellinger said.

The team will be heading to Austin next Sunday, May 12, where they’ll have 40 minutes to perform and impress some judges.

“I’ve been coming to these and watching these plays whenever I was a little kid, and just getting to know we’re finally the ones that got to push right past the regionals and get to go to state is wonderful,” Hellinger said .
