The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced the death of one of its unit chairmen, Comrade, Elegbede David, in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday, 4 May 2024.

The Union, in a statement, said that until Elegbede’s death, he was the Unit Chairman of the MWUN at APM Terminals Apapa.

It described the late Elegbede as a diligent and hardworking person with excellent leadership qualities as a unionist who influences workers positively.

“Comrade Elegbede started work at APMT in 2007 as a crane operator and had been a well-cultured member of the union and a dedicated dockworker staff of APMT,” the statement reads in part.

Expressing his pain over the loss, President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, said Elegbede’s death was both painful and difficult to understand because Comrade Elegbede was a brilliant and intelligent union leader.

I have prayed for God’s eternal rest for the deceased. He also prayed that God would grant the management of APM Terminals Apapa, Elegbede’s immediate family and colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
