[Update] Swarm of Cops on SF’s Sixth Street Looking for Shooting Suspect, Who Is Still at Large

A major police action was happening Monday afternoon at a residential building on Sixth Street between Market and Mission streets, and we now have a few more details.

An alert went out at 1 pm Monday from SF’s Department of Emergency Management to avoid the area of ​​Sixth Street between Market and Mission due to “police activity.”

As the Chronicle reported from the scene, a “swarm” of SFPD officers was gathered outside a building near Mission Street, and officers “were unspooling caution tape and preventing people claiming to be residents of the building from entering.”

Cellphone video footage from inside the building or a building next door, posted to the Citizen app, showed an SFPD tactical van in addition to multiple police vehicles parked on the street.

The Chronicle got further information from the SFPD that this was a police response to a shooting that occurred on Sixth Street, and a gunshot victim was found in the area just before noon. That person’s condition is not currently known, but they were hospitalized.

Police reportedly had information that a suspect in the shooting was somewhere in the immediate vicinity, which is why the public was told to avoid Sixth Street Monday afternoon.

The suspect is reportedly still at large as of 3:30 pm, and we are awaiting further updates from the SFPD.
