Murder: Elderly woman’s premeditated murder | Kochi News

Kochi: Ernakulam rural police investigating the murder at Kalloorkad where a 42-year-old man allegedly strangled his mother to death has found that it was a premeditated crime. Jijo, a resident of Adivad, had allegedly murdered his 67-year-old mother Kausalya. He was presented in court and was remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.According to police, the woman had died on Sunday evening. “He was going through some financial crisis. He had some debts and had asked his mother for money or her gold chain for him to pawn. But the woman refused. He was staying at Adivad which is a few kilometers from the spot where the victim was staying. He came to the victim’s house on Sunday carrying a scarf from his home. This itself indicates that the murder was premeditated,” said a senior officer with Kalloorkad police. The woman had some cardiac arrests, and initially it was thought that she died of natural causes. Police said local residents, including the ward member, became suspicious seeing marks on her neck and called a doctor leading to the police getting alerted. “When those in the house were questioned, the accused’s behavior raised suspicion. He admitted to the crime during questioning. He had snatched her gold chain and had hidden it in the house itself. This was later recovered,” said an officer. A team under Kalloorkkad inspector Ravi Santhosh made the arrest.
