Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) is currently leading the general classification at the Giro d’Italia with an advantage of 46 seconds after four stages in Italy.

The Slovenian and pre-race favorite took the pink leader’s jersey on stage 2 with a commanding win on the summit finish to Oropa, dropping all of his rivals to seize his first pink jersey. Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) sits in second overall, 46 seconds down on Pogačar, while Dani Martínez (Bora-Hansgrohe) is in third, a second back on Thomas.

Pogačar and Thomas did try to go on the offensive on stage 3, following a late attack from Mikkel Honoré (EF Education-EasyPost) and trying to get a jump on their GC rivals, but they were caught in the final straight and there were only minor changes in the overall standings, as Thomas and Pogačar picked up bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint.

Stage 4 was a sprint stage, won by Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and there were no major changes on the GC, bar Cian Uijtdebroeks (Visma-Lease a Bike) taking a bonus second to move up one place to fourth.

Ahead of stage 5, Uijtdebroeks leads the young rider classification, stage 4 winner Milan tops the sprint points standings, and Pogačar is leading the mountains classification, although the jersey will be on the shoulders of Lilian Calmejane (Intermarché-Wanty). Ineos Grenadiers are leading the team classification.
