CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A pair of First Alert Weather Days are in place Wednesday and Thursday due to the chance for some strong thunderstorms.

  • Today: Hot and humid, strong PM storms
  • Thursday: AM and PM storm risk, some strong
  • Friday: One or two stray thunderstorms
  • Weekend: Sunshine, dry, cooler 70s forecast

Several rounds of showers and storms are likely today, tonight and Thursday. Any storms, regardless of the time of day or night, may bring heavy downpours, damaging wind gusts, large hail and even an isolated tornado.

A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for both Wednesday and Thursday.(WBTV First Alert Weather)

Today will be hot and humid, adding fuel to the afternoon thunderstorms. Highs today will top out in the mid to upper 80s before any rain comes to town. Storms will start in the mountains during the early afternoon hours and drift out into the foothills and Piedmont by late afternoon. Most storms should exit to the east of Charlotte by early evening.

There may be another round of showers and severe thunderstorms late tonight and very early Thursday morning, again drifting from the mountains down toward the Piedmont before dawn.

It remains to be seen if the atmosphere can recover Thursday afternoon to generate more thunderstorms, but that is a possibility. Highs Thursday will top out in the low to middle 80s.

Friday will bring just one or two parting thunderstorms before we cool off with a beautiful weekend forecast. Highs Friday will be in the upper 70s before we fall back to the seasonal mid to upper 70s with comfortable humidity levels both Saturday and Sunday.
