They spread photographs on social networks of the singers Katy Perry and Rihanna posing on a red carpet and present them as if the images corresponded to their attendance at the Met Gala 2024, held on May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It’s false. The snapshots have been created with artificial intelligence (AI).
“Katy Perry is the best dressed at the Met Gala,” we read in a publication shared more than 900 times on Facebook since May 7. The photograph shows Katy Perry wearing a long dress adorned with flowers while a group of photographers stand behind her. “Rihanna for the Met Gala 2024,” says a message on the same social network that shares an image of Rihanna in a white dress with vegetation and birds embroidered on it. The snapshots are also shared with messages in English that present them as if they were real on other social networks such as X.
These photos of Katy Perry and Rihanna posing are not real. These are images generated with artificial intelligence. None of the artists attended the Met Gala 2024. A reverse search reveals that the origin of the Katy Perry photograph is located in an Instagram profile managed by a fan of the artist who shares the image two weeks before the event along with the following message: “We are on the eve of the Met Gala 2024, on May 6! Check out my outfit ideas for Katy Perry.” This Internet user points out in one of his publications that the images that circulate on networks as if they were real are generated with artificial intelligence and that they have been uploaded to his account for “quite some time.”
At VerificaRTVE we have analyzed the photograph of Katy Perry spread on social networks with the fake image and video detection tool of the IVERES project of Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE) and the conclusion offered by this resource is that the snapshot is 99.82 percent probability of being “false.”

Katy Perry herself has published the snapshots generated with artificial intelligence through her Instagram profile and has assured that “he couldn’t” go to the Met because he “had to work” and that his mother also believed that the images were real. You can see the post below.
The author of the fake Rihanna photo is a digital creator of AI-generated content. In the lower right corner of the image we see the watermark of the artist Rick Dick. The creator indicates on his Instagram profile that Rihanna’s snapshot has been generated with artificial intelligence, after the image went viral. The author has also shared other creations on his account based on other female artists posing on the Met Gala red carpet (1, 2 and 3).
