An investigation in Elmira has now led to an attempted murder charge for an 80-year-old man.

Waterloo Regional Police were called to a home in the Cardinal Street and Meadowlark Road area just after 7:15 am on Wednesday.

Initially, police told CityNews Kitchener it was because of an assault with a weapon incident.

Investigators then provided an update on Wednesday afternoon and said the initial call related to a dispute at a residence.

A 51-year-old woman sustained injuries from a knife and was transported to a local hospital. Her condition is described as being serious but non-life-threatening.

An 80-year-old man has been arrested and is facing a charge of attempted murder.

Police said the man and woman are known to each other and there’s no public safety concerns.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
