MADRID, May 9. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Podemos candidate for the European elections and former Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, assured this Wednesday that Vice President Yolanda Díaz was not a good choice to lead the space of the confederal left after the departure of Pablo Iglesias from the Government in 2021, in which also handed over the leadership of Unidas Podemos to the Minister of Labor. “I think time has shown that not,” she said.

This is what Montero said in an interview on Cuatro’s program ‘Another approach’, which was reported by Europa Press, in which he also acknowledged “having turned the page” after his departure from the Government, although he recalled that Podemos is related with the Executive to carry out measures.

Questioned about how she felt after Sumar decided that she was not on her 23J lists, Montero responded that she has also turned the page on that decision, although she has acknowledged “pain” when she saw that those who should be her teammates left her “stranded.” “. “It is the message that is sent to society (…) The enemy is going to destroy you and those who are supposed to be your companions are going to leave you stranded,” lamented the Podemos leader.

Regarding her departure as Minister of Equality, Montero has indicated that the Government wanted to leave her “alone” but she felt supported by her colleagues from Podemos and the Ministry team. Thus, she has blamed Pedro Sánchez, who is “the one in charge”, she has stressed, for her departure from the Government. “It’s another thing that Yolanda agreed, but I think the decision is made by the president,” she added.

According to the former minister, Sánchez did not want to “assume the political cost of making feminist advances” because, in her opinion, she “challenged” during the 23J electoral campaign what was “the hallmark of the Government.” For Montero, the socialist leader chose to “be a feminist in the institution” which “is the same as doing nothing” while he reproached Podemos for having gone “too far” with a speech that “upset his friends.”

Thus, Montero has also criticized that the PSOE tried to remove credibility from the laws promoted by Podemos from Equality. “They talked about the botched laws, about the girls in the ministry… Even when we promoted the laws, people sometimes told us with sarcasm, that law is not going to be approved, the trans law is not going to come out,” he said.
