Two scooter-type motorcycles, discovered on different dates in villages in the province of Nicosia, are at the center of investigations by the investigators of the Police’s Anti-Terrorism Division, as part of the investigation into the attempted murder of Dimitris Andronikou (“Dimitroui ” on 4/23 on the road from Palaichori to Anthoupoli.

These two motorcycles have been located on the outskirts of western Nicosia, with investigators considering, based on the testimony before them, that they were possibly used by the perpetrators of the crime on two separate occasions.

It is believed that one of the two scooters was used in surveillance of Andronikou prior to April 20, while the other was used in the attempted murder of the 34-year-old three days later.

According to the testimony presented by the Nicosia Anti-Terrorism Division in two judicial proceedings for the detention of suspects, it is simultaneously being investigated whether the 9th suspect, a 28-year-old Romanian national residing in Limassol, supplied the perpetrators with the motorcycles .

Specifically, here’s what appears to be the case with the motorcycles:

One of the two scooter-type motorcycles, according to what an investigator from the Anti-Terrorism Division told the Court, was found in Akaki on 4/20/2024, where two individuals abandoned it upon the arrival of police.

These two individuals were wearing one blue and one black helmet, both bearing the insignia of a well-known distribution company.

According to the Police, during the same period, specifically between the dates of 16-22 April, the target of the attempted murder that occurred on 4/23 was heading to the Peristerona Police Station to visit an acquaintance who was under arrest.

The second motorcycle was found last Monday by the Police while a judicial procedure for the detention of suspects was ongoing. Information indicates that it was found on the Akakiou-Meniko road, and there is reasonable suspicion that this is the one used by the perpetrators during the attempted murder of Andronikou.

It should be noted here that initially, the Police information stated that the scooter on which the perpetrators of the crime were riding had been transferred to Kaimakli to be disassembled.

Both motorcycles are undergoing forensic examinations to determine if they match the suspects.

From the initial stages of the investigation, the Nicosia Anti-Terrorism Division was evaluating the role of the 28-year-old, 9th suspect, with the motorcycle on which the two individuals who undertook the implementation of the plan to eliminate Andronikou were riding.

In the request for the detention order examined last Monday, the head of the investigative team of the Anti-Terrorism Division stated that in a photograph the 28-year-old had on his mobile phone, the stolen motorcycle found in Akaki on April 20 was visible.

Additionally, there is visual material from his phone showing a motorcycle identical to the one used in the attempted murder on 4/23.

Alexandros Souris, lawyer of the 9th suspect, based on what he stated in Court last Tuesday, is considering the possibility of appealing the judicial decision to issue an 8-day detention order against his client.
