Ghatkopar Hoarding Collapse: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to remove three hoardings adjacent to the Ghatkopar petrol pump hoarding collapse site after the incident. Bhusan Gagrani on Tuesday said that these three hoardings, which were put up by the same agency that put up the crashed hoarding, are in the process of getting removed.
A big hoarding toppled at a petrol pump on Monday, killing up to 14 people, following a dust storm in Mumbai. BMC has requested assistance from MMRDA in dismantling the hoardings since the civic body lacks the essential technical competence and equipment.
According to the BMC official, the hoardings were put up along with ads on both sides, totaling eight hoardings, and permission was obtained by the GRP ACP (admin) for the commissioner of police (railways). None of them were set up with BMC’s approval.
To remove the collapsed hoarding, the MMRDA dispatched two 500-tonne cranes. Gas cutters were also given, but were not used owing to fire safety issues at the fuel station.

MMRDA also dispatched a team of 60 men from the Metro Line 4 Amar Mahal site to help in rescue and relief efforts. Manthan K Mehta and Sanjeev Devasia, two site officials, stated that the crew was well-equipped with necessary gear and tools, including four Hydra cranes, to enable operations on the site.
Following the collapse on Monday at the Ghatkopar petrol station, Ego Market Pvt Ltd received a warning from the BMC for constructing illegal hoardings. Together, the NDRF, MMRDA, and Man Infraconstruction Ltd. addressed this circumstance.
Former BJP leader Kirit Somaiya expressed concerns about the hoardings’ unauthorized placement as well.
