He President Gabriel Boric reported this Saturday, within the framework of his Public Accountthat this week an expropriation process began to be carried out in the Villa Bavaria (located in the commune of Parral, Maule Region), in order to consecrate it as a site of memory.

This project was discussed at the beginning of last year by Boric with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during his visit to Chile. The European leader then confirmed his country’s willingness to collaborate in the search for truth and justice for the victims of the enclave, which was detention, torture and extermination center of opponents to the Pinochet dictatorship, and a true personal kingdom of the Nazi pedophile Paul Schäfer.

“Human rights and memory are a task that does not recognize borders. For several years now, the governments of Chile and Germany have been working to convert a ancient space of horror and death in a place of memory and future,” Boric said in his speech.

“As a result of such collaboration, today I can inform the country that this week we began the expropriation process of part of the land of the former Colonia Dignidad in Villa Baviera; among them, of what was Paul Schäfer’s house. This is a relevant step on the way to consecrating the place as a memory space. Thus, from the south of Chile to Germany, in one voice we say to the world: Never again!”, stated the Head of State.
