Los Angeles.— Recent Oscar winner Cillian Murphy will star in and produce Netflix’s new Peaky Blinders movie, the specialized media Deadline reported yesterday.

The film will be directed by Tom Harper, the director of the first episodes of the series released in 2013 that follows a gang of street gangsters in the United Kingdom in the post-war era.

“It seems that Tommy Shelby (his character in fiction) was not done with me… It is very gratifying to collaborate again with Steven Knight and Tom Harper in the film version of Peaky Blinders. “This is for the fans,” Murphy said in a statement to Deadline.

The script is written by Steven Knight, creator of the British series, and the production of the film, whose details of the plot and the rest of the cast are kept secret, is scheduled for the end of this year.

“When I first directed Peaky Blinders more than 10 years ago we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know there was something about the alchemy of the casting and writing that seemed explosive,” Harper said in the same statement.

Peaky Blinders premiered its first season in 2013 and after five more it came to an end in 2022.

The series won multiple BAFTA awards over the years and despite its popularity with American audiences, it never earned an Emmy nomination.

The role of Thomas Shelby gave Murphy an international projection that he had not achieved until then, despite having had a career with recognized titles such as Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, both by Christopher Nolan.
