Two children who were playing basketball outside their home at the time of an explosion in the house next door had a tremendous scare.

“I called 9-1-1 and told my children to stay away from the area because we didn’t know if another explosion was going to happen,” said Ulises Hernandez, neighbor and owner of the surveillance camera.

Ulises Hernandez says he reacted quickly when he knew that his children were outside at the time of the incident.

“I was very scared at the moment and that’s why I started running,” said Emanue Hernandez, a neighbor.

Another neighbor, Mark Schultz, said, “The flames were very intense. The trees were on fire. I saw some branches falling on the firefighters. “It was a very dangerous situation.”

Authorities responded to the scene immediately on the night of the show and the fire department said they found a lifeless man inside the home. At the moment the Lake County medical examiner is trying to identify the man’s identity although it is believed that he was the owner of the home.

Aside from the victim, the Lake Zurich fire chief commented that no other residents were injured although one firefighter did end up with a minor injury to his arm while cleaning up the debris.

Authorities will continue to investigate the possible cause of the explosion and the identity of the victim will be revealed in the coming days as forensic doctors examine the body.
