Spain has managed to double the value of olive oil sales to Germany in the last three years, going from 67 million euros in 2021 to 132 million in 2023, as reported by the Olive Oil Interprofessional.
The organization has celebrated that, despite the price increase that olive oil has experienced in world markets, Germans have remained “faithful” to this food.
The figures reflect, the interprofessional noted, the work they have carried out since 2021 with the European Union (EU) through the “Olive Oil World Tour” initiative.
This promotion plan is coming to an end and to celebrate it, Aceites de Oliva de España has organized an event in Munich (Germany).
The general director of the Food Industry of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), José Miguel Herrero, has described the campaign as a “genuine success”, as it has achieved that one of every three olive oils consumed in the German market is Spanish, according to a statement.
Furthermore, the manager of Olive Oils of Spain, Teresa Pérez, considered the timing chosen to launch this campaign to be “very successful”, as it coincided when the prices of this product “soared in world markets”.
According to Pérez, the sector anticipated a “slump” in demand both in the market, however, the campaign has served to explain to the German consumer that “olive oils are worth every cent they pay for them,” he indicated.
The data from the interprofessional indicates that Spain has managed to make the commercial situation profitable, which is why it has increased its market share in Germany by almost nine points, going from 25.35% in 2021 to 34.23% in 2023.
