An explosion in a grain drying silo of the CVale company, located in the State of Paraná, Brazil; occurred in the early hours of this Thursday, leaving one dead and another seriously injured. According to the Military Police (PM), the deceased was a Paraguayan national and the injured person was urgently transferred to the Bom Jesus Hospital in Toledo.

The incident occurred at approximately 01:15 a.m. on PR-364, when emergency teams were alerted by Samu about the explosion in the dryer. Upon arriving at the site, rescue teams found the victims on the ground, indicating that the support platform where they were located had given way after the explosion.

The fatal victim was identified as Júlio Cesar Vera Dávalos (46), a subcontracted worker. Gabriel Marcenichen Mangon, 23, is the victim who was seriously injured and is receiving intensive medical treatment.

According to the manager responsible for the CVale unit, both workers were wearing personal protective equipment at the time of the accident. The company has stated that it is providing assistance to both the victims and their families during these difficult times.

As of the last update of this report, the cause of the explosion has not been determined. The Fire Department assured that there is no risk of new explosions or fires at the accident site. The Civil Police and the Scientific Police are also involved in the investigation to clarify the facts.

The grain drying process, which consists of removing excess moisture from harvested grains to avoid loss of quality and prevent deterioration, is a critical operation in agricultural production. Today’s explosion shows the risks inherent in this stage of grain processing, despite the safety measures implemented.
