Following complaints about high utility bills, particularly the high cost of electricity, Argentina’s volunteer firefighters are receiving significant relief.

In an announcement made this week, the National Gas Regulatory Entity (Enargas) has adhered to Law 27,629, in force since 2021 but not yet regulated, thus establishing a Special Tariff Regime for these entities.

The resolution issued by Enargas determines that volunteer fire stations throughout the country will be exempt from paying for gas service through networks. This measure will be implemented by including the “Bonus Law 27,629” in gas bills, thus ensuring free service, complying with a law that had remained without adequate implementation for several years.

Dr. Eduardo “Bali” Bucca, provincial senator and author of Law 27,629, expressed his satisfaction with this momentous measure: “I am extremely pleased to share with the volunteer firefighters from all over the country excellent news: we have managed to implement the Regime Special Free Rate established in Chapter I of Law No. 27,629. This measure aims to strengthen the National Volunteer Firefighters System of the Argentine Republic, guaranteeing free essential public services for our entities. From now on, gas bills will include the ‘Bonus Law 27,629’ with a negative sign, ensuring that they are free for all registered entities.”

Network gas supply companies have already received the corresponding instructions to include this bonus in the invoices of users registered in the National Registry of Volunteer Fire Entities. To access this benefit, entities must complete a form available on the Enargas website, providing the required information.

Bucca also highlighted that this measure represents another step in the continuous commitment with the Volunteer Firefighters Federations to support and strengthen those who, with courage and dedication, protect and serve the communities. However, he also pointed out that there is still work to do: “Now we will continue working to regulate 100% of the benefits of the Law, there is still the VAT refund on all purchases made by the Argentine Bomber System, such as equipment, infrastructure and technologies to save lives.”

Conclusion:

The measure announced by Enargas represents significant progress in supporting Argentina’s volunteer firefighters, guaranteeing free gas service through networks and thus alleviating a significant financial burden for these entities. However, the continued commitment of the authorities and firefighter federations is essential to ensure full compliance with Law 27,629 and access to all the benefits it offers.
