A deputy of the far-right Alternative for Germany party in the state of Saxony, Hans-Jürgen Zickler, was beaten this Saturday by a 47-year-old man at an information stand for the election campaign in the city of Dresden, in eastern Germany. . The Dresden Police confirmed the incident in a statement and reported that the suspect, a 47-year-old man, has already been arrested and is being investigated for suspicion of assault against 70-year-old Jürgen Zickler. The Alternative for Germany spokesperson for the state of Saxony, Andreas Harlass, has also confirmed the attack. The far-right party is taking part in the European elections this Sunday in elections marked by the increase in violence against politicians of all political stripes. This comes after council candidate Heinrich Koch was attacked with a knife in the city of Mannheim, in the state of Baden-Württemberg (southwest), on Wednesday. The aggressor, 25 years old, was arrested, although the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police explained in a statement that he showed clear signs of mental disorders. The incident took place just days after an attack on a member of the anti-Islamist movement Pax Europa in Mannheim’s market square, which left one officer dead and five others injured.
