In the province of Córdoba, the death of two people has been recorded due to leptospirosis, a disease caused by a bacteria that can be found in the urine of certain animals.

The cases were reported in the town of Pasco, where the patients had work ties. Both were confirmed as cases of leptospirosis by the Zoonoses Department of the Epidemiology Jurisdiction Directorate of the Ministry of Health of Córdoba.

The first victim, a 51-year-old man, died a few weeks ago, but his case was confirmed last Tuesday. On the other hand, a 63-year-old man, who shared the tasks of milking and caring for animals in a dairy farm in the same town, remained hospitalized in another health center with similar symptoms and respiratory assistance. His death was recently confirmed.

Given these events, an investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the infection.

Leptospirosis is caused by a bacteria present in the urine of animals such as rodents, dogs, cows, pigs, horses and wild animals. Transmission occurs through direct or indirect contact with the urine of an infected animal.

The National Ministry of Health warns that the risk of contracting the disease increases in flood situations or when carrying out activities in aquatic environments. Initial symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain and general malaise, evolving in severe cases to a septicemic phase with more intense symptoms.

It is essential to be alert to any symptoms and seek medical attention if leptospirosis is suspected. It is also recommended to take preventive measures, such as avoiding contact with contaminated water and ensuring adequate hygiene when handling animals. Awareness and information are key to preventing the spread of this disease.
