Michael Caine says goodbye to acting after 70 years of profession with “The last escape”co-starring the double Oscar winner and British politician Glenda Jackson (“Women in Love” and “A Touch of Class”), before his death in 2023.

“I keep saying that I’m going to retire. Well, now I am,” the 90-year-old actor – also British and decorated as a “sir” – had anticipated, in statements for the BBC after a career of more than 160 films, including two Academy Awards for “Hannah and Her Sisters” (1987) and “The Cider House Rules” (2000), and other remembered titles such as the “Batman: The Dark Knight”, “Kingsman: The Secret Service”, “Nothing is what it seems 2”, “Carter – Relentless Killer”, and more.

“The Last Escape” follows the story of Bernard Jordan (Caine), an 89-year-old World War II veteran, who in the summer of 2014 escapes from his residence where he lives with his wife Rene (Jackson), to join his fellow war veterans on a Normandy beach, commemorating their fallen comrades on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France.

“The only roles I can get now are 90-year-old men. Or maybe 85,” he revealed to the program. Today, (BBC Radio 4). “You don’t have protagonists at 90 years old, you will have young and handsome boys and girls. So I thought: I better go with all this,” he revealed while acknowledging that he had rejected the project on three previous occasions.

In addition, Caine has just presented his book Deadly Game (2023), which tells the adventures of a rebellious detective. According to him, one of his greatest desires was to write a detective novel.

Directed by Oliver Parker (“Othelo”, “Johnny English Reloaded”), “The Last Escape” will finally arrive in Argentine cinemas after its premiere in Europe, this coming June 13.
