The Diada fills the town with flavor and tradition

June is the Albercoc month in Porreres. The sweet fruit is one of the symbols of the town and for a few weeks it will also be the perfect excuse for celebration. Throughout the month you can enjoy the exhibition of photographs from the book in Plaça de la Vila. Inventory of traditional vegetable varieties of the Balearic Islandsbut in terms of events, the program, which already started on the 10th, has many more surprises.

Saturday the 15th will be the big Albercoc Day, with a large number of activities. At 11 in the morning, Raquel Barceló’s archaeological ceramics workshop will begin in Plaça de la Vila. It is that same place the Albercoc Fair, where you can find a wide variety of products based on fruit. The fair is possible thanks to the organization of the Porreres Agricultural Cooperative and the Economic Promotion Council.

At 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. the participants’ skills will be tested with the apricot xapar contest. There will also be a showcooking of the cook Miquel Calentin which he will teach the best recipes again with the albercocs as protagonists. Throughout the afternoon and evening there will be activities and entertainment in a space located on Pou Florit street. At 7 pm the 30th anniversary of S’Estol Porrerenc with a ballad popular and from 8 p.m. there will be two big events, the Frit de Marisc Spring Soup and the Sopar at the end of the course. In the following days the proposals will continue, with auditions by the students of the Porreres Music School, student parties, a garden of local varieties, the busy l’Hospitalet Fest on Saturday the 22nd at 5 p.m. or the chamber concert of the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears in the Municipal Auditori on Sunday the 23rd. To all of the above we can add the gastronomic offer offered by various restaurant establishments for these days and which includes dishes as irresistible as Vegetarian frit with pool and safari, trempó pizza amb albercoc either pastís de formatge amb albercoc caramel·litzat.
