Mexico City, May 14 (Sputnik).- A vehicle in which part of the team of the virtual president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, was traveling, suffered a crash on a highway in the state of Coahuila (northeast) while the politician was heading to an event with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The mayor of the town of Moncloa, Mario Dávila Delgado, confirmed the death of an elderly woman who was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident.

According to witness reports, two trucks and several people were injuredso they had to be treated by emergency services and transferred to nearby hospitals, reports El Universal.

Dávila assured that Sheinbaum’s advance guard was responsible for the accident, by jumping a traffic light. «They did not respect the stop and the other vehicle was coming on its right and was hit by the escorts’ vehicle,” he said.

Sheinbaum’s reaction

For its part, the president-elect’s press team released an information card to report on the accident that occurred in Moncloa. “We deeply regret that a person died in the other vehicle,” the letter reads.

It is also highlighted that “upon being informed of the accident, the elected candidate stopped to find out the condition of the people,” who were already being provided with medical assistance.
