Hungary and Switzerland met in a match with needs, after the convincing debut of Germany, host of Euro 2024, in group A.
We had to win and so Switzerland did, which was always more than a Hungarian team that lacked spark and reaction that fell justly 3-1.
At 14 minutes Duah already overtook his team in a quick start and better definition that required an automatic review of the play to establish that there was no offside, as initially stated, and put the score at 1-0.
At 44 they gave Aebisher a space and the Swiss hit a powerful shot, very close to the post, for the 2-0 that gave luxury to the overwhelming and fair victory of the team that played in red. Shaquiri’s substitution made a lot of sense because the team plays at a tremendous pace when attacking and then what would be needed was to manage the advantage.
Switzerland put the game on ice and controlled it due to the weakness of its rival, but in the complement came one of those goals from another game that for a moment changed the scene.
At 66 came an impressive play: Varga’s backheel, ball to the left, impeccable cross by Szoboszlai at the head of the person who started the play and a great goal to make it 2-1. A beauty that ignited spirits in Cologne but, unfortunately, it did not go further than that, as Hungary was emptied and lacked punch.
It was not Switzerland’s fault that they made the score 3-1 at the end, after an unforgivable start by the Hungarians that was left to Embolo to define at will.
Now in Group A Germany continues to lead, due to a 5-1 victory against Scotland, but Switzerland follows with the same 3 points. Hard outlook for the defeated.
