Congress approves extending the additional monthly bonus to regular judges

The Plenary Session of Congress approved in the first vote, on Friday, June 14, the bill 05961/2023-CR or “Law that extends the additional bonus in favor of all regular judges of the Judicial Branch.”

The ruling was exempt from a second vote and had 76 votes in favor, 18 against and 14 abstentions.

In detail

The authors of the legislative initiative are parliamentarians María Acuña, Elva Julón, Eduardo Salhuana, Idelso García, Cheryl Trigozo and Magaly Ruíz.

Among the beneficiaries, in recognition of their work and dedication to public service – according to the opinion – are the senior judgesthe specialized judges and/or mixed and the learned justices of the peace.

Their amounts are distributed as follows, according to article 3:

  • Chief Senior Judges: 80% of the value of four and a half units of public sector income.
  • Specialized and/or mixed regular judges: 62% of the value of four and a half units of public sector income.
  • Legal justices of the peace: 40% of the value of four and a half units of public sector income.

About the bonus

José Jerí Oré, president of the Budget and General Account Commission of the Republic, indicated that the bonds are financed with the balances of budget items of the PJ for fiscal year 2024 or, in any case, from its 2025 institutional budget. without demanding additional resources from the public treasury.

The additional monthly bonus is not remunerative in nature, is not subject to social charges and is not pensionable in nature nor is it part of employment benefits. Likewise, it does not constitute a calculation basis for compensation for time of service (CTS) or any other type of bonus, assignment or delivery.
