Euro Cup: Lamine Yamal becomes the youngest player to debut

At 16 years, 11 months and 2 days, Lamine Yamal becomes the youngest player to debut in this competition.

Berlin.- Lamine Yamal, starter in the Spanish team’s debut in Germany 2024 against Croatia, leaves his name for posterity with a historic double record in the final phase of a European Championship.

At 16 years, 11 months and 2 days, he becomes the youngest player to debut in this competition – he takes the record from the Polish Kacper Kozlowski – and to be a starter, surpassing the Dutchman Jetro Willems.

The previous record of the youngest player in a Euro Cup was set in the 2020 edition, played in 2021, by midfielder Kozlowski, in a match played in Seville, in La Cartuja, against the Spanish team.

Three years later, Lamine Yamal shatters the record and, at 16 years and 338 days, becomes the youngest footballer to make his debut in the history of the Euro Cup, ahead of Kozlowski and England’s Jude Bellingham.

Furthermore, he does so as a starter, also lowering the best mark in that section that Dutch defender Jetro Willems had, at 18 years and 71 days old.

Regarding the history of the Spanish team, Yamal considerably lowers that double record, which belonged to Pedri, who made his debut in a European Championship at the age of 18 years and 201 days, also as a starter.
