An accident marked the first trip through Mexico of the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum

The first national trip of the virtual elected president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumwas marked this Friday by the crash of one of the cars in his delegation that caused the death of a woman who was traveling in another vehiclehis office reported.

The accident occurred in the mining state of Coahuila (north) where the first woman elected president of Mexico He met the outgoing left-wing president and his political godfather Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Sheinbaum stopped to find out the state of the people

Sheinbaum, who will take office on October 1, arrived a few minutes later at the event that had been agreed upon with the president because “he stopped to find out the status of the people” involved in the accident “who were already being treated by municipal and state emergency teams,” his press team detailed.

“We deeply regret that a person died in the other vehicle,” the statement continued, adding that the accident occurred in the municipality of Monclova.

The president-elect later told reporters that the members of her entourage who were in the accident were admitted “to the hospital,” but were “fine.”

Accident due to speeding

The car belonging to Sheinbaum’s team was traveling at “excess speed”, the mayor of Monclova, Mario Alberto Dávila, of the opposition National Action Party (PAN, right), told journalists.

The convoy was traveling from Monterrey to San Juan Sabinas, in the neighboring state of Coahuila, to meet, along with López Obrador, with relatives of 65 miners who died in 2006 in the collapse of the Pasta de Conchos mine.

Some human remains from that tragedy were found after 18 years at a depth of 146 meters, the government reported on Wednesday, which launched a complex rescue operation in 2020, as only two bodies had been recovered when the disaster occurred.

“Since then you have led a fight to recover your loved ones and for justice,” Sheinbaum said at the event with the mourners to whom he told that he felt “very strong emotions.”

The future president “is going to continue the transformation of our country,” declared López Obrador, who brought the left to power in Mexico in 2018.

We “started the welfare programs,” added the president, recalling that now older adults have the right to receive 100 pesos (USD 5.42) a day.

“It is no longer a program, it is a constitutional right for all older adults,” the president stressed.
