Authorities detailed that 80 percent of Chetumal was affected by the flood, where in some areas it reached 90 centimeters in height.

In a press conference with authorities from the three levels of Government, it was noted that the rain in Chetumal recorded 135.2 millimeters of precipitation. In just four hours, 63 millimeters fell, which collapsed the city’s drainage system.

“Too much water fell in a very short time, as happened from 11 to 12 at night when 58 millimeters fell. The condition of the soil was not able to permeate all the water due to the amount of rain that occurred in Chetumal,” explained the Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres Gomezwho led the press conference.

In addition, 17 neighborhoods were left without electricity due to the flood, although as of this Saturday afternoon, only two did not have electricity.
