The Lighthouse | New limits for electricity and gas subsidies: Guide to carry out the procedure

Starting this month, households in the Buenos Aires province may request subsidies for electricity and gas if your income does not exceed 2,979,728.50 pesos. With the phasing out of these subsidies for low- and middle-income sectors, upcoming utility bills will arrive with significant increases.

New Limits and Requirements for Subsidies

Due to inflation and the increase in the Total Basic Basket (CBT), family income ceilings have been updated. The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) estimated in May a CBT of 851,351 pesos for a household of four people. Based on this, it has been established that families with incomes of up to 3.5 times the value of the CBT can apply for subsidies through the Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE).

Residential users are divided into three categories according to their income:

  • N1: High income – They pay full rates without subsidy.
  • N2: Low income – They receive subsidies with a consumption limit.
  • N3: Average income – They receive subsidies with a consumption limit.

According to official data, there are 5.3 million users on N1, 8 million on N2 and 2.7 million on N3.

Steps to Carry out the Procedure

To maintain the benefit of the subsidy, interested parties must register on the official website: www.argentina.gob.ar/subsidios. It is recommended to have the following information on hand:

  • Meter number and Customer/Service/Account/Contract number or NIS (details available on the invoice).
  • Last copy of the DNI.
  • CUIL number of each household member over 18 years of age.
  • Pocket income of each household member over 18 years of age.
  • Email address.

If a community dining room or picnic area registered with Renacom operates at your home, you must have the registration number on hand.
