In the midst of the controversy surrounding his future, Klay Thompson has decided to join the Bahamas national team training camp. The still Warriors player, according to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater in TheAthleticwill join the Caribbean team as it passes through Houston before the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games.
Thompson will not participate in the pre-Olympic and it does not seem that he would do so if he qualified for the Paris event. In fact, his priority continues to be free agency, which he will leave in the coming weeks to resolve his future.
To play games with the Bahamas, the guard should receive the approval of the US team, with whom he won gold in Rio 2016, and FIBA. Something that is not considered a possibility. The Bahamas already had the presence of renowned NBA players such as Eric Gordon, DeAndre Ayton and Buddy Hield in last year’s World Cup.
The team is currently heading to Greece to play friendlies against the Hellenic team and Montenegro in preparation for the pre-Olympic tournament that will start next July 2 in Spain.
