BEAVER COUNTY, UTAH- Beaver County firefighters continue to battle the Little Twist Fire, which began as a Ranger District controlled burn.

This spring, the Beaver Ranger District implemented the burn plan for the South Beaver prescribed burn project, successfully completing 4,724 acres in several weeks.

Hot, dry and windy weather caused the fire to burn beyond its expected limits this spring.

On the afternoon of June 13, 2024, Forest Service leadership made the decision to transition the active portion of the prescribed fire to a wildfire, now known as the Little Twist Fire.

Due to more accurate mapping, the Little Twist Fire is currently 2,250 acres. While Little Twist remains within the South Beaver RX project, the decision was made to transition to a wildfire, allowing the Forest Service to make use of additional resources, including those of cooperating agencies.

This will allow the assigned Type 3 Incident Management Team to manage the incident efficiently.

The fire experienced little growth in recent hours. Firefighters will continue to construct and strengthen direct and indirect firebreaks while utilizing natural barriers and favorable fuel types that provide the greatest opportunity to work toward safely and effectively containing the fire.

Air resources managed to moderate the fire in critical areas along the fire perimeter. An area closure order is in place to provide safety to both firefighters and the public.

Smoke will remain visible for several weeks from surrounding areas, including I-15, I-70, Hwy-89, and Hwy-20.
