For Flag Day, the monument to General Manuel Belgrano is being renovated – News

Days before June 20, the date on which Flag Day is commemorated, the Municipality is renovating the monument to General Manuel Belgrano, located in the square that bears his name, which is right on the homonymous avenue, between the streets Güemes and Balcarce.

The monument consists of a pedestal supported by octagonal steps, both made of Carrara marble, where the statue of the hero rests. The bronze sculpture of General Manuel Belgrano, which was executed in Buenos Aires, by the sculptor Francisco Cafferatta, carries in his hands a scroll that represents the capitulation that Belgrano himself signs with Pío Tristán. It was donated by President Julio Argentino Roca.

The work being carried out is cleaning the bronzes and marble from pigeon excrement, complementing one of the large missing pieces of marble, fixing, taking joints with resin, polishing and waxing the marble slabs.

It should be noted that it is the first monument in the city, since it was inaugurated together with Plaza Belgrano, on July 9, 1885.
