Fifth day of searching: Loan does not appear and the searches continue

On the fifth day of searching in the case of the missing minor in Corrientes, Loan Danilo Peñaprosecutor Juan Carlos Castillo highlighted that in the next few hours he will investigate the three defendants for the crime of abandonment of person.

“I will carry out the investigation shortly. We are very respectful of the information they are going to give. It is not ruled out that the course of the investigation will change,” she explained.

Regarding the accusations, which were announced during the day on Monday, Castillo indicated: “We are working with abandonment of the person, which is the strong evidence we have, but we do not rule out other hypotheses. “It is a broad and complex investigation.”

“We know that the child was lost in the mountains, but we do not rule out that something else may have happened. We are doing everything we can, we analyze all the information we have,” he remarked in dialogue with TN. For the prosecutor, the uncle and the detained couple “placed the child in a situation of abandonment because they did not have authorization from the father to take oranges in the mountains.”

“We have prints from the baby’s shoes. Last night an orange was added that could be related because it is on the path of the orange and the shoe. Scientific analyzes are being carried out in this regard. Traces have been found that in my opinion are not, but we took them,” he concluded.

His family’s lawyer also released some details regarding the status of the case. “I don’t want to hinder the investigation, but some traces and indications are appearing that he could, at least until a few hours ago, be alive,” explained Roberto Méndez.

In conversation with Ari Paluch on Radio Rivadavia, Méndez recounted the hard work that has been carried out for five days: “They do the most exhaustive work during the day, to have good visibility of everything, and at night they continue working, but in a more cautious way.”

Regarding when the enormous operation could end, the lawyer responded: “It depends directly on the Nation and then it is what the Corrientes Police can continue, but it will be more limited, because it will be done with provincial resources.”

Regarding the arrests and accusations, he highlighted: “At the time of the statements they gave to Loan’s father, with those they gave to the police authority, there were inconsistencies and contradictions, that is what led to the prosecutor’s decision.”

Rakes at Loan’s grandmother’s house

The troops who are in the operation carry out a search in a well found in the house of the five-year-old boy’s grandmother.

While the search continues against the clock with special drones throughout the rural area, the canine unit is working on the well found, 100 meters from the house.

A member of the dog division of the Argentine Federal Police explained why there was an operation in a well near Loan’s grandmother’s house: “We are raking the entire sector.”

“These are directives that we received from the Corrientes Police,” explained Leandro Sánchez regarding who gave them the order to examine. When asked about the reason why they go through sectors already investigated again, he responded: “It is good to go through these places again, even though they have already been surveyed, to look for points of interest.”

“The provincial police gave us Loan clothing so that the dogs can follow his trail,” he said.

Finally, he emphasized that the search for the minor does not stop: “We never stop. When one dog rests, we go out with another.”

Suspicions about the three detainees

The three arrested for Loan’s disappearance are his uncle and a couple friends. Prosecutor Juan Carlos Castillo charged them with the crime of abandonment of person. According to C5N, all eyes are on them and continue to point out that “the answer is there, even though no hypothesis has been ruled out.”

In addition, they reported that during the afternoon of Monday, the residents of July 9 demonstrated at the police station to ask that people’s houses in the town be searched since they insist that the key is in the detained people. In that sense, they point to the aunt, the wife of one of the detainees.

Days ago, Buenaventura Duarte, Minister of Security of Corrientes, had indicated: “The prosecutor charged the people with the crime of abandonment, for being guarantors of the care of the minor. This qualification was determined by the testimony of the father who was investigated in the last hours.”

Alberto Molina, chief of the Corrientes Police, released details of the detainees: “The woman is a housewife and her partner is an employee of a company, who was now on leave. The other is a changarín and some of them would have a record for the crime of cattle rustling.”
