Santiago Pauli, national deputy of La Libertad Avanza, spoke with AIRE LIBRE FM about several topics. He defended the Base Law that the Senate approved and that must now be ratified by Deputies. But he also gave his opinion on the criticism of the gas rate.

This Tuesday, Deputy Pauli began by pointing out that “now it remains to discuss the modifications proposed by the senators. The deputies will have the responsibility of accepting the modifications or insisting with a certain majority on the original wording that we sent to the Senate. We’ll see. One never knows what is going to happen when voting and the modifications remain to be discussed. We are already in the final stretch, there is not going to be that very long discussion that both deputies and senators had. So if there are other modifications.
What we deputies can do is that, vote in favor of the modifications proposed by the Senate or insist on what is sent to the Senate. That’s what’s left. That’s why I say, it’s not going to be the long discussion from the other time, we have to decide this and that’s it. In other words, the law is approved, the only thing left to discuss is whether or not the modifications coming from the Senate are accepted.”

What happens if not, if this is not accepted?

“If we have the majority, I mean, the deputies in general, with the required majority, vote on the original text, the original text is maintained, if not, the senators are maintained. That is, a special majority is required in this case to be able to insist on the deputies’ version.”

It is a fact that the modifications occur, that the Base Law is sanctioned, we have to see what prevails, whether the will of the changes in the Senate or the original text of deputies.

“Exactly, yes, yes. The basic law, in general part, in its entirety as a law, has already been approved. When these modifications are defined yes or no, they will be able to be sanctioned there.”

What do you see regarding what is inherent to the productive, to the productive economic sphere of Tierra del Fuego? Because there were different statements, especially from unions, accusing, as you already know, deputies and senators who voted in favor of the basic law, and pointing out, as a complaint, to the detriment of the workers. What do you see and what, inherently in the industry, changes the rules of the game?

“Let’s see, there are two things here.
First, as I stated at the time, what was said is not true when they said that we had voted against the Senate in 1940. I am not going to blame the entire union leadership, the governor, his legislator, and People in his cabinet said so, and I insisted that we never voted against Law 19,640. So, saying that he was at risk due to the basic law generally says a lie. That never happened. Now, what we can discuss with the issue of investments and industries is, does the approval of certain tools such as the regime for the incentive of large investments benefit Tierra del Fuego? I think so. I’m not the only one in Tierra del Fuego who says it. I believe that these tools that we approved in the basic law will allow for more investments in Tierra del Fuego, which will be good because it would generate more jobs. And well, there are a lot of things in the basic law. A lot of issues are modified. Labor relations, the tax part, the investment part, industries.
We can discuss a lot of things in the basic law about whether or not it works for Tierra del Fuego. I believe that the basic law is beneficial for Tierra del Fuego, that is why I debated it and voted in favor of it.
There are things that are going to happen, we are going to see them quickly, and other things that are going to take a while.
When 19,640 was approved, at that time, a couple of decades ago, the factories did not come the next day. There was a process in which, given the new tools and incentives, many companies in Tierra del Fuego began to look with affection and said, well, we are going to go because it is convenient for us.
I think the same thing is going to happen here. There are changes that will be seen in the medium term, and others that will take a while, but also in the long term we will see more investment in Tierra del Fuego.
That’s what we should be discussing, not whether we thought 19,640 was in danger or not, which it never was. It seems to me that the discussion with union actors, with officials from the provincial government, from the national government, that is, how we can take advantage of these tools so that there are more investments.”
