Three companies were selected to investigate the optical details and features of the devices, and they have a budget of 17.5 million dollars. These works are expected to begin in September of this year.
What is the new NASA telescope like?
NASA’s new telescope will operate in orbit to photograph planets that present Earth-like featuresthat move around a star, just as our planet does with the Sun.
The device will also be responsible for studying atmospheres in search of chemical forms or signs of extraterrestrial life. To do this, substances such as oxygen and methane or other signals that indicate the presence of life forms will be looked for.
The space agency is in the planning stage of working groups. The researchers will rely on the experiences and learnings from the James Webb Space Telescope. They will also have the experience of the 2.4-meter Nancy Grace Roman Telescope, which will aim to “hunt” dark energy and exoplanets, and is about to be launched in 2027.
