Significant loss of gas due to a broken pipe

06/21/2024

As EL TIEMPO was able to find out, the event occurred in the morning yesterday. It was when a machine was carrying out tasks to remove old trees and inadvertently caused damage to a pipe.

Yesterday morning, a machine operated by a company contracted by the Municipality of Azul caused a significant loss of gas, after breaking a pipe on the corner of Prat and Colón streets.

The incident occurred while the roots of old trees were being removed, a preventive measure to avoid falls and inconveniences with electrical wiring.

As a result of what happened, an important security and traffic control operation was deployed in the area, which was carried out while the operators of the Camuzzi Gas Pampeana firm worked to repair the loss caused by the involuntary breakage of the pipe.

Personnel from the commune’s Citizen Security and Civil Defense area participated, with the support of police officers from the Fire Detachment and the Patrol Command.

Since this event occurred during a holiday, it was not necessary to evacuate the staff and students of School 2 and the former National School, educational establishments located near the place where the gas pipe break occurred, something that would have generated more inconveniences to the proposed scenario.

Personnel from the gas provider company and the Municipality of Azul worked quickly to contain the leak and repair the damaged pipe.

Mayor Nelson Sombra was immediately informed of what happened; and the staff of the Undersecretariat of Citizen Security of the commune placed special emphasis on working to solve the problem, at the same time preserving the residents living in the sector affected by the breakage of the gas pipe.

THE DATA

According to what was announced, the incident occurred at 9 yesterday and the repair work on the pipe was extended – as was the security operation – until approximately 4:45 p.m.
