The Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, as well as the ministries of Public Security, National Security, and Justice, jointly issued the document titled Opinions on Legal Punishment for Taiwan Independence Hardliners for the Crime of Secession.
The five entities warned that those who cause especially serious damage to the Chinese country and people, and the circumstances are particularly abominable, could even be sentenced to death.
According to sources, the “Opinions” fully implement President Xi Jinping’s ideas on the rule of law and the New Era Party’s overall strategy to resolve the Taiwan question.
The statement explains that the measure is based on the Anti-Secession Law, the Penal Code of the People’s Republic of China, the Criminal Procedure Law and other legal provisions.
The general requirements, conviction and sentencing standards, and procedural rules for punishing “Taiwan independence” hardliners who commit crimes of inciting secession will be implemented in accordance with the law, the document states.
